*FINALLY RELEASED* PEGGIE+TV (for TV Series)

Postby coolstream » Wed Jan 13, 2010 9:28 pm

Here is PEGGIE+TV for TV Series or even movie sets (i.e. more than one video file inside a single folder).

It comes in two basic formats:
1 Jukebox mode - where TViX uses the 3 button overlay
PEGGIE+TV jukebox.jpg
PEGGIE+TV jukebox.jpg (146.15 KiB) Viewed 11179 times

2 List mode - where you have a list of the files on the same background screen
PEGGIE+TV list.jpg

The template introduces a new feature in addition to the relatively new feature of fanart. This new feature is the introduction of bannerart. The template will work without any bannerart or fanart, but without at least fanart, the template will be no real difference to the black screen TViX already uses.

You can add as much or as little as you prefer. PEGGIE+TV will allow your creative side to flourish as it does not work with TViXiE in the conventional way. My reason for doing it this way is that there is at present no good content provider for TV series available in TViXiE and since this type of background will be more of a one off (e.g. one folder with perhaps 25 episodes), I think that it deserves to have someting a bit more special and customisable.

For this reason, PEGGIE+TV will use 3 fanarts simultaneously and will also see the introduction of another kind of fanart, which I will refer to as bannerart.

TVDb.com is able to provide a good range of fanart and also provides custom banners and posters for making folder icons. So really with PEGGIE+TV, the sky is the limit!

Although it would be possible to use TViXiE in the traditional way, if you didn't get a meaningful return from your scrape, you might not even be able to proceed so I have provided a dummy file which you should add to your folder prior to using TViXiE. (This will also mean that if you are going to use TViXiE Assistant, you can skip the first scrape which TViXiE Assistant requires)

I have created a batchfile to prepare your artwork for PEGGIE+TV. You can now drag and drop your artwork from TVDb into your series folder renaming them to banner.jpg, fanart.jpg, fanart1.jpg, fanart2.jpg and folder.jpg as you drop them.

The batchfile is contained in PEGGIE+TV Assistant.rar
The Assitant RAR also contains the dummy file for configuring your PEGGIE+TV template.

Download PEGGIE+TV Assistant.rar and extract it directly to your Desktop. You will be presented with 2 files, PEGGIE+TV.bat and MovieInfo.tvixie.

You will need to use PEGGIE+TV.bat in EVERY folder you use PEGGIE+TV with! (If a cleverer programmer than me can work out a better way to do this, I'd greatly appreciate any pointers)

How to use PEGGIE+TV
step 1
Go to TVDb and enter your TV series in the green box at the top right of the screen.
Select your series from the results window
You will find icons for fanart, folders and banners
Make your selections, saving your files to the folder

For Jukebox mode, you need up to 3 fanarts + 1 banner + folder.jpg
For List mode, you need 1 fanart and 1 banner + folder.jpg.

Once you have added artwork to your folder, you are ready to proceed.
HOWEVER, to make PEGGIE+TV compatible with the next release of TViXiE (1.31), we have to make one further step.
Fanarts and bannerart must have their extensions renamed to .tvixie This is done with PEGGIE+TV (also, MovieInfo.tvixie is added at this stage)

step 2
Copy PEGGIE+TV.bat from your desktop and add it to the series folder and then run it
INSTRUCTION VIDEO here

step 3
Once this is done you run TViXiE but instead of doing the usual 'Get Movie Information', go into the folder and select 'Edit Movie Information'. Now edit the data provided
Title = Title
Org. Title = Season number/info
OK

You should now see your new tvix.jpg
INSTRUCTION VIDEO here

There are no plans to introduce the new feature of bannerart to TViXiE. This is my own introduction, the good news is that if you don't use the bannerart feature, PEGGIE+TV will still work and will add a text header instead!

You now have all the necessary files and instructions to use PEGGIE+TV
All you now need is a copy of TViXiE 1.31 (only available to beta testers via subscription to TViXiE at present)
If you want to give this a try right now, see joma's post for more information.

BONUS FEATURE:
There is an early *EASTER EGG* in 'Edit Movie Information'
To discover it, try selecting some different Media Format, Sound Format and Resolution Format settings ;)
-Thanks to sorunsal for his icons

ALSO, a fully TViXiE Assistant compatible set of templates will hopefully soon be available!

OK, you have read enough. Now it's time for you to get creative. Have fun!

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR THE 42 PREVIOUS DOWNLOADS OF PEGGIE+TV TEMPLATES:
There has been one small bug reported.
To save having to download the template again, you can manually make a small edit (no need for xml editing skills required)
In \PEGGIE+TV\image_resolution\ folder, rename 1080p.png to 1080.png.
The 1080p icon will now display in tvix.jpg if selected ;)
Thanks to fredrick__a for the bug report!

EDIT (31/07/10):

I have now added a tweaked version of PEGGIE+TV for TViX Jukebox mode which allows CERTIFICATION rating to be displayed. If you wish to add this data manually, the template allows for a 7-digit data field. Data can be entered in lower case for convenience and the template will automatically convert it to UPPER CASE!

Hi
Love your template...as an avid Xbox and XBMC user over the years until its limitations with high res movies caused me to invest in a tvix 6600..i have a quick question about the TV templates will there be a way of including season thumbs as well as the XBMC Media Companion does for most XBMC skins..so when you go into main Tv series folder there will be season thumbs inside or will that mean..another template inside...if you know what i mean ...jack

Hi jackster1961, welcome to TViXiE forum!

My TVseries folder is split into subfolders for each program and inside those folders could be season folders, or you just make a new folder for each season treating each one as an individual show.

Because I am designing the template primarily for jukebox mode, I have no subfolders, so it's a case of 1 folder per season. To create a 'container' folder for the seasons, a new template would have to be created. I will consider this after this template is released. ;)

Coolstream,

I'll get you some images from the 6600n, better still I'll try create an overlay for CoverArt for movies and a CoverArt with Mutiple files (for TV) - that way it becomes easy to modify templates and see the resulting image before applying any template ;)

I don't understand why Dvico chose to place huge "Back" "Play" and "Preview" image in the middle of the screen which really ruins the fanart and the dropdown list appears smack bang in the Top Middle of the screen. They could have placed smaller discreet (transparent) buttons on the top left hand corner - IMO

It is another subtle difference between 6500 and 6600, the 3 buttons for jukebox mode ARE transparent on the 6500 (see here). The only button that isn't transparent is the button that is active. ;) For this reason, I don't find them intrusive at all and actually like the way they work because I don't consider the area they occupy as being 'dead space'.

I also like the fact that when you press 'PLAY' you are taken to a new page with a list mode type of display. What I don't like is the fact that the background for this list page cannot be customised. By keeping a grey/black element to the front page, the move to the listing page become a bit more fluid.

An overlay for the 6600 showing dead space (where 6600 places icons) in jukebox and listing modes would be very much appreciated :)

You say 1 folder per season, so in that you can have multiple files ?

I want in folder list:

TV Shows
Show (Say Californication)
Season (1 - 3)
Episodes (1- 12)

Root directory have a thumbnail of multiple shows
Season: Thumbnail of the season DVD cover
Episodes: thumbnail and sysnopsys

If this CAN be done, I don't mind doing the work and sharing it out, just need to point me in the right direction on how I go about it and I'll get to work :P

The idea of 1 folder with all files - means you only need to apply 1 template.
e.g. Dexter - Season 1 (folder.jpg + tvix.jpg + fanart.jpg - thus 1 Template)

I have
TV Series
- Dexter
- - Season 1 (with 12 Episodes)
- - Season 2 (with 12 episodes)

So I need:
TV Shows (1 file = folder.jpg)
- Dexter (folder.jpg + tvix.jpg + fanart.jpg - so Template 1 for the Show)
- - Season 1 (folder.jpg + tvix.jpg and fanart.jpg specific to Season 1 - Template 2)

Thanks smills, I will take a look as soon as I can.

To users: I have a pretty bad chest infection at present but will do all I can to get PEGGIE+TV released over the weekend. My apologies for the delay so far!

Everything you are asking for is possible in both jukebox and listing mode. The principles are the same whichever type of UI you choose.

Each folder that has a subfolder must contain icon.tvix in order to activate the subfolders as icons.

This means that each subfolder must contain its own folder.jpg (the icon for that folder)

To have a background for the subfolders, you must have a tvix.jpg

The 'top folder' for the TV series could be pretty basic if you want because all it will show is icons for each subfolder. (PEGGIE+TV will allow you to add as much or as little info/artwork as you wish)

The actual series folders are perhaps the nearest we have to what we know as a movie folder. The background for this folder is perhaps where we would place the series info, cast etc. (again, you can use PEGGIE+TV and add this info).

NOTE: If you want a synopsis of each episode, you will have to create a folder for each episode and proceess these folders with TViXiE to create the data (icons and backgrounds etc)
Personally, I would avoid the step above and prefer to have a series folder which simply lists the episodes by title.

In listing mode, this would mean that the episode titles would appear directly over the background that PEGGIE+TV creates (hence the dark area on LEFT of the background)

In jukebox mode, a lot of episodes in one folder would force TViX to show the three buttons which would be overlaid over the background. Pressing 'PLAY' would bring up a new menu on the 6500 and, I believe, a list on 6600 from which you to select your episode.

TVSERIES example.jpg
Here is an example of the finished work as seen in TViXiE which I think should give you the inspiration.

NOTE:In actuality, the placement of the icons will be different on your TV.
